The Wall

Welcome to The Wall!

We didn’t feel we had anywhere on the site to thank people and share some of the amazing comments, pictures, and gestures that friends, family and complete strangers are contributing both to the appeal, and to our lives. We both hope you are as touched and as inspired as we are! Enjoy.

The fabulous Mrs Elise Alison Roberts   -   29th December 1972 – 3rd October 2010

A MASSIVE thank you to Lynn, Deborah, Jen, and all the guys who put on a fantastic dressage event for us on 21st April, and raised a fantastic £900. There are photos in the Events page.

Dressage Event in aid of The Christie

Elise for Life

The first ever dressage competition was staged on Saturday 21st April at Solaria Farm, Brereton, Holmes Chapel.

Over seventy competitors took part in the four the classes from lead rein tots to the more advanced riders. Starting at 9:30 until 5:00 pm competitors preformed in front of the judges, with rosettes and prizes awarded to the first 6 places in each class.

Refreshments were served and along with the dry weather all enjoyed the day.

A grand total of £900 was raised on the day.

Many thanks to Deborah who provided the venue and the judges who provided their time free of charge

Thank you so much!

Another lunatic great supporter of Elise for Life is Barry Frost who’s JUST completed his LA to JOG bike ride! Barry, I hope you’ll soon be able to sit down again, although watching Liverpool surely only brings you more pain in your backside! Cheers pal, Elise would be very proud!

As if trekking the Great Wall of China wasn’t enough, Iain Robertson decided to raise his sponsorship by cycling from Lands End to John ‘O’ Groats!!!! Completely mental, but in awe of you Iain (and your dad who followed you in the camper van)…..fantastic effort! Thanks so much.

Mike – Thank you so very much on behalf of The Christie, myself, Elise’s family….and of course Elise!

Huge thanks to Vicki, Sue, Judi and David at Barclays Radbroke Hall for their amazing cake sale on 23rd March 2011. Their £1141.56 has taken us to £100,000 – wow! Thanks guys, and everyone who’s been part of our first milestone. Onwards and upwards!

Elise’s team auctioned 2 Peter Andre tickets which, with £4£ have raised £1500. I wish I’d have known….I’d have paid that not to go and see him!

Special mention to Tanya Stockton. Tanya worked in Elise’s team, and Elise loved her. She so very kindly wrote a personal cheque to the charity – I won’t reveal how much, but it was sizeable – thank you so much Tanya.

Huge thanks to Andrew Morton and the guys at Barclays Gadbrook. In the gym they cycled and ran the 180 miles between Gadbrook and London, AND held a raffle at their team away day – they’ve raised £2025!!

I’d like to say a big thank you to a lady at M&S in Stockport  – a member of staff – whom I wont embarass by naming. Upon telling her Elise’ story, she told me that she had ben treated at The Christie and they had saved her life. She then wrote me a cheque for £100 to Elise for Life. I know who you are and so do you – thank you so so much, and I wish you continued good health.

Another huge thank you to one of Elise’s colleagues Mandy Swift, and her friend Jaki, who’ve just completed the Dublin City Marathon. They have raised £1104 for the appeal. Thank you so much ladies!

Huge thank you to Emma Kennedy, Marco Giannini and all the ladies and gents at The Christie appeals office. These guys have now picked up the Elise for Life baton and are working closely with us to ensure we smash the £1m fundraising target for the hospital. Thanks guys.     Here’s a piece they wrote a couple of months ago which appears on The Christie’s website;  http://www.christies.org/companies/partners/barclays.aspx

22nd October 2010 – A fantastic night was had by all at the Sportsman’s Dinner – massive thank you to Martin Hagger (Elise’s Brother in Law) and his brother Andy for organising everything. The evening raised £3590 taking our total to just over £55,000! There’s a picture on the ‘Photo’s’ page if you’d like to have a look!

October 2010 – I’d just like to post a message of support and thanks to Georgia Sutcliffe. Georgia is a student nurse who looked after Elise when she was on placement at The Christie. Following this time, she has emailed me to offer her support for Elise for Life and has agreed to climb Mt. Snowdon on November 20th. Please visit Georgia’s site to offer any support you can, and to read her beutiful tribute to Elise. Go Georgia!! www.justgiving.com/Georgia-Sutcliffe  12.20pm Saturday 20th November 2010 – Georgia has just finished climbing Snowdon in 4 hours and 20 minutes ( up and down ) and raising £375 in the process! August 2010 – There is shortly to be a press release for the Elise for Life fund. Ahead of it’s release we’d like to share Dr Lorigan’s quote with you – we were really quite choked with his extremely kind words, and continue to be so thankful that he’s ‘on our side’….Dr Paul Lorigan at The Christie, said; “Elise has shown such tremendous courage, spirit and fighting determination since she first started treatment.  Her positivity is infectious and we’re humbled by her mission, with the help of her loved ones, to raise such an amazing sum of money.  It really will make such a difference to our work and we can’t thank them enough.”

A HUGE thank you to the following people who thought it acceptable to jump out of a perfectly good plane with a rucksack strapped to their backs – they all land safely so I’m asuming the rucksack contained a parachute?!! Well done guys – fantastic, and very brave! Nic Dutton, Karen Nielsen, Nic Bradley, Jon McKenna, Julia Allsop, Kat Mathis, Steph Farrell, Winston Reilly, Chris Tym, Daniel Austin, Mark Wakefield, Liam Senior, Alison Horan, Amanda Morley, Sarah Perraton. The guys jumped at the British Parachute School in Nottingham from 13,500ft – freefalling in tandem for 60 seconds, before praying, and looking up – special thanks to Karen Nielsen for organising, coaching, and persuading so many nutters colleagues to join her!

To our families – Ray, Sylvia, Pat, Frank, Nola, Phil, Nicola, Danny, Loretta, Martin and of course Harry, Lulu and Wotsit (the bump) - we love you all, and can’t thank you enough for all the support you’ve given us, and continue to give us. We’re all in this together and we will get through it one way or another. Keep strong!

A huge thank you to Barry Frost, Denise Lamont and all at Commercial Plus UK Ltd and Brymau Estates for extremely kind and generous donations. Barry has also pledged to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End next May i aid of our appeal – fantastic. We’ll post details of Barry’s trip on the site once dates are confirmed and sponsorship sites are set up.

Massive repect and thanks to Paul Calladine and his friend Matt for raising £945 towards the appeal…..by climbing Mont Blanc! They have shown that even highly ambitious targets can be scaled and achieved! Well done guys.

The Three Musketeers! Glenda, Elaine and of course Elise. These two ladies have looked after us for the last 9 months and we’re so grateful to them for everything they’ve done for us. You’re amazing people and we can’t thank you enough!

As there’s not been much (if any) mention of our wedding on the site – one of the few highlights of our year – here’s one of the 10,000 photo’s! Mr & Mrs Roberts – 6 minutes old!

Lee Stinchcombe (Barclays Wales and West RSC) emailed ”I have had a crazy idea for raising awareness and money for your charity – a Barclays charity single hopefully in time for Christmas” Priceless! Watch this space, and watch out Simon Cowell.

A great colleague of both mine and Elise’s (and one of the funniest guys I know) Steve Lane, said ”Elise, you’re only one of a few people who can make the lives of others seem brighter & you’re a fighter. So although it seems that 2010 (your wedding apart & belated congratulations) hasn’t been the greatest year, you keep fighting and I know 2011, 2012, 2013 and on will be a whole heap better.”

Upon registering for the Great Wall of China Trek, Amy Dewison said ”I’m really pleased to confirm that Becky, Dan and I are all signed and paid up! You’re stuck with us now!” – I’m happy to be stuck with all 120 of our China Trekkers!!

Speaking about Elise, Toni Leden (Appeals Director, The Christie) said ”It is amazing how her personality and reputation at Barclays has generated so much fundraising activity amongst her colleagues throughout the country – I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

You are the bravest lady I know! – Rebecca Fetherstone - July 2010

Elise, you are a true fighter and what I have read this afternoon has stopped me in my tracks. Only today I was saying no matter how big my problems are, there is always someone with a bigger mountain to climb – today that someone is you, and boy are you climbing. Nikki Clermont, Florida, USA – July 2010

12th July 2010 – John Leach (friend of Mark Dutton’s) donated £50. Best of all, here was his comment…”Hi, I’m a mate of Mark Dutton. This is my winnings from our World Cup sweep, hopefully some of my good luck will rub off on you guys. Best wishes” Unbelievable!

Mark Dutton - Mark and several of his 5-a-side football pals had a slush fund at the end of the season, left over from subscriptions. Instead of heading down to the pub, they donated it to EfL – £128 – LEGENDS!

Dave Black - Owner of Onside Creative, Dave set up this fantastic website for us FREE OF CHARGE! Please use Onside for all your website and digital marketing, they’re brilliant and Dave (and Mark) are two of the nicest guys you could meet.

David Walsh - Again, a true gentleman, David made an amazing personal donation of £250 to our fund. In addition, he donates a percentage of his commission earnings to the appeal. David, we thank you – despite going through your own personal challenges with family matters, you have been a true friend to us both.

I have found myself thinking of Elise tis week. Not sure why….but I just wanted to let youknow that she isn’t far from my thoughts & I think of her fight & determination often.

Mark, I am not sure if you know but a friend of ours from Barclays in Birmingham, that I am sure Elise knew is currently fighting a brain tumor. She has surgery but they were only able to remove 40% of it. She is having chemo & radiation is the hope of shrinking the tumor. Her fight & daily blog remind me of Elise and your updates via this website.

i am sure this coming month is going to present it’s challenges & memories. Stay strong & keep hoping for a cure.
